Products that are marked "On Order" in the "Available Quantity" column are usually not in stock. Such products are available for purchase, however, due to their limited customer base, they usually have higher minimum quantities. What is a varistor?

Varistor is a semiconductor electronic element, with a depending on the voltage non-linear resistance. For small voltages it has a big resistance of hundreds of kΩ, with a voltage increse to the characteristic value for this type of varistor the resistance lowers to several dozens of Ω.

Application of varistors

Varistors can be used as receiver’s protection from high voltage. When the voltage exceeds a given value, through the varistor flows a huge current, taking over the impulse energy or even burning the fuse. It leads to turning off the device. Varistors can be short circuit amplifiers due to their low resistance caused by lightning voltage and allows for free flow of the current to the round.

Varistors can be used in:

  • protection of power lines,
  • short circuit and high-voltage protection, 
  • arrester
  • transformer protection,
  • protection of telecommunication devices: modems, phones.

E60 and E80 varistor series is mainly intended for use in industrial applications, offering perfect short circuit protection in traffic control, rail and tram traction, power transferring devices, devices for mining. Enclosures of varistors provide protection against vibrations, air pollution and humidity.
