Description
The "Polyga" measuring element produced by Galltec consists of several synthetic material strips, each of which is braided with 90 fibers with a diameter of 3 μm. The fibers acquire their hygroscopic characteristics during a special process. The measuring element absorbs and releases moisture, resulting in a change in the length of the fibers which, acting on a lever system, switches a microswitch with an extremely small switching path. The measuring element reacts quickly and accurately to any change in humidity. A knob can be used to vary the humidity value at which the contacts will switch.
The hardened measuring element is located inside the housing and must be protected from dust, dirt and water. The sensors are designed for vacuum operation. Select a mounting location that prevents condensed water from entering the sensor. The mounting position is arbitrary, however, it is recommended that the housing openings be oriented in the direction of air flow.
Use
Hygroswitch is an ON/OFF controller of relative air humidity. It is used to control humidification and dehumidification in offices and rooms with electronic equipment, such as server rooms. Other areas are food storage rooms, fruit and vegetable cold rooms, greenhouses, textile industry, paper industry, printing houses and hospitals.
In case of Hygroswitch-i room hygrostats the knob for setting humidity value is located inside the housing. This location protects the humidistat against changes in settings by accidental persons.
The physical effect of temperature on relative humidity
For temperature variations of ±1°C relating to individual room temperatures.
10 °C | 20 °C | 30 °C | 50 °C | |
10%rh | ± 0,7%rh | ± 0,6%rh | ± 0,6%rh | ± 0,5%rh |
50%rh | ± 3,5%rh | ± 3,2%rh | ± 3,0%rh | ± 2,6%rh |
90%rh | ± 6,3%rh | ± 5,7%rh | ± 5,4%rh | ± 4,6%rh |
Therefore, it is extremely important to maintain a constant temperature while taking humidity measurements.
Maintenance
In a clean environment the measuring element requires no special maintenance. Various aggressive media (especially those containing solvents) may cause measuring errors depending on the type and concentration of the substance. As with all measuring elements, substances which cause water-impermeable layers are harmful (e.g. resin aerosols, lacquers, soot, etc.).
