Ceramic Resistor Assemblies

Ceramic Resistor Assemblies

  • High impulse energy rating
  • High voltage withstand capability
  • Practically non-inductive
  • Air/oil/SF6 environments
  • Air-cooled and water-cooled variants
  • Various available lead configurations
  • Custom solutions available

Ceramic carbon resistors can be ordered separately, in matched sets based on resistance values, or pre-assembled for easier installation. Resistor disks can be stacked, marked, and numbered for optimal flatness and parallelism.

It is generally recommended that HVR performs any work related to building the assemblies since we use specialized tools to ensure correct positioning of disk resistors and appropriate mounting force. This is essential not only for mechanical reliability but also in minimizing the risk of electrical activity between consecutive disk resistors and the disk/contact boundary.

Wherever possible, the resistor assembly will be designed using standard components, allowing us to offer the most economically efficient solution.

Standard Assembly Components

  • Glass-fiber cord with mounted disk resistors
  • Aluminum hexagonal end stops mounted on both ends
  • Schnorr spring washers providing clamping force (≥ 350 kg)
  • Insulating counterweights (Glastic) for easy installation
  • Aluminum crank terminals for electrical connections

Alternative Design Options:

In some applications, it may be necessary to include other components to meet electrical, thermal, and mechanical design specifications for resistor assemblies.

These may include:

  • High-tensile strength steel screw and UL94 V-0 compliant insulating sleeves
  • Aluminum sleeves/spacers to increase average rated power
  • Aluminum cooling fins to increase average rated power
  • Water-cooled plates to increase average rated power. If required, the cooling plates can be electrically isolated from the disk resistors.
  • High-current terminals for optimal current flow
  • High-current terminals/spacers for enhanced average rated power
  • Custom-made components requiring, for example, tinned copper terminals
  • Customer-specific components, e.g., thermal switches

Previous Solutions Included:

Standard Components

Technical Information:

  • Mechanical dimensions (D x H x W): 336 x 60 x 125 (mm)
  • Assembly resistance value: 1K0 ± 10%
  • Required pulse filling: 1 x 75 kJ every 2400s
  • Peak ΔT (1 x 75 kJ / 2400 s): ≤ 100 °C
  • Operating voltage: 25 kV (200 / 200,000 µs)
