The Italian company ICAR was founded in 1946 and is now a leader in the production of power capacitors and low and medium voltage systems, with 70 years of experience in the research and production of power resistors.

As the first company in the world, ICAR began producing capacitors with metallized polypropylene in the early 1960s.

ICAR Product Offer

ICAR primarily manufactures capacitors with solid dielectric materials, intended for use in power electronics. The company also offers a wide range of products, including capacitors for DC link circuits (so-called DC link capacitors), as well as various passive components (capacitors, resistors, fuses, filters) and power capacitors. ICAR also offers capacitors with special designs, for traction applications, used in vehicles and traction substations.

The wide range of rated voltages and capacitances enables ICAR capacitors to be used in many applications, including renewable energy, energy transmission, industry, transport, laboratories, lighting, and medical departments.

Certifications

ICAR holds an ISO 9001 certification and operates in compliance with conflict mineral regulations, which require EU companies importing tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold to ensure that there are no entities in the supply chain financing armed conflicts. It also holds the IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard) certification.

What are capacitors?

Capacitors are considered passive electronic components. Their construction is based on two conductors, between which there is a weakly conductive dielectric. The main function of capacitors is to store energy in the form of an electric field.

Capacitors are divided into electrolytic and film types. The former uses a dielectric in the form of a thin layer of metal oxide, typically aluminum or tantalum. They almost always have a fixed polarity. For this reason, they can only be used with a specified voltage polarity, and reversing the voltage could destroy the passive electronic component.

Film capacitors, on the other hand, are components where the dielectric is a plastic material such as polyester, polypropylene, or polycarbonate. They are characterized by relatively low capacitance, high rated voltage, and reliable operation even under high currents.

Both polypropylene dielectric film capacitors and electrolytic capacitors can be found in ICAR's offer available at DACPOL.

ICAR — Manufacturer of Capacitors for Industrial Applications

ICAR capacitors are widely used in various industrial applications. These include power supply systems, electronics, and reactive power compensation systems. As a result, they are divided into several basic types.

The first type is capacitors for reactive power compensation, intended for use in energy systems, where they help improve the power factor. They have high capacitance, ranging from several hundred μF to several thousand μF. They are designed to withstand demanding industrial conditions.

The second type — capacitors for induction motors — are used for both starting the motors and ensuring proper operating parameters by stabilizing their operation.

In addition, ICAR's offer includes electrolytic or film filter components intended for use in power converters, rectifiers, and other devices requiring voltage filtration or power damping. They are characterized by high stability and capacitance.

Another part of ICAR's offer is passive electronic components designed for AC and DC applications, which feature high resistance to overloads and excellent performance.

What Makes ICAR Capacitors Stand Out?

The passive electrical components of the ICAR brand stand out due to many features that make them a good choice, especially for industrial and energy applications. First and foremost, the entire production process is controlled by the manufacturer, from the production of polypropylene film to metalization and final assembly. This ensures that the quality of ICAR capacitors is monitored at every stage of their manufacturing process.

ICAR capacitors are also produced using a special metalized polypropylene film. This gives them excellent electrical and thermal properties, as well as resistance to the passage of time. Their special design, which allows for heat dissipation and resistance to high surge currents, ensures that these passive electronic components remain reliable even in applications requiring high power. Additionally, their construction results in very good resistance to environmental factors and high tolerance to temperatures over a wide range.
