What are safety curtains?

Safety curtains are devices using optical semiconductor elements. The device consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is built from a series of transmitting diodes, which generate parallel beams using optical diodes. The receiver consists of the same number of optical systems and receiving diodes. Each transmitting diode corresponds to a receiving diode. This solution reduces production costs, decreases the device's weight, and allows the production of curtains of various heights.

Principle of operation of safety curtains

Safety curtains operate in the infrared spectrum, which means that the beams emitted by the transmitter are invisible. The beams are activated sequentially. This means that the transmitter turns on the diodes in a specific order. Due to the need to synchronize the transmitter
and receiver, the receiver must activate the receiving diodes in the same order as the transmitter.
If an opaque object appears, such as a human body or its part, the beam is interrupted. The effect is that light does not reach the receiver, which detects the object and interrupts operation.
