Protection methods - enclosures intended for work in explosion risk Ex areas
Each product for the Ex area can be secured according to the special requirements. There are special marking ways for the Ex enclosures. For instance, Ex ”o” symbol indicates the protection through the immersion in the device’s oil, Ex ”p” through the introduction of a neutral gas into the enclosure, and Ex ”q” through the quartz sand.

Ex d marked enclosures are intended for explosion protection - their purpose is to stop the sparking inside. These enclosures are constructed in a special way to be able to endure the pressure of dozens of atmospheres.

Another type are hardened enclosures, with the increased protection. They are marked as Ex ”e” types. These enclosures are mostly used for terminal blocks protection, electric connections, lamp sockets, etc.

The Ex ”i” symbol indicates products with a forced protection, which during a typical work do not cause ignition. That is why the risk of explosion is significantly reduced. Such enclosures are called ignition-safe.

The Ex ”m” symbol is for enclosures protected by resins. This type of protection is very effective, however, the resins are not good for heat conduction, and the devices cannot be fixed in case of any damage.
