WHBSA Braking Resistors

Water-cooled braking resistors for use in buses and trucks can withstand high braking power loads. The resistor can handle a power range defined as continuous heating power without any loss of properties. For the downhill test, the resistor can withstand an overload of over twice the power for 12 minutes. The overload factor compared to the heating power is 3.4 for 10 seconds and 3.1 for 15 seconds, in a 60-second cycle.Braking resistors are offered in three diameters and various lengths, totaling 16 different physical sizes. Resistance values depend on size/power.Resistive elements quickly dissipate energy to the coolant. A 30-second cooling system activation delay is recommended. Minimum and maximum coolant temperatures at the inlet and outlet depend on the coolant mixture properties. Recommended ΔT f ≤ 20⁰C. For a water-glycol mixture at a system pressure of 1 bar, the maximum temperature is 120⁰C.
