The company EFEN GmbH was founded in 1922 by Otto Fress in Neudorf (today Martinsthal) in Reingau. The purchase of the existing mill building on the B 260 between Martinsthal and Schlangenbad in 1937 made it possible to increase production capacity. After separating EFEN from WICKMANN-Werken in Witten in 1985, EFEN continued the production and sale of medium voltage fuse links, fuse links and surge arresters for overhead lines.

In April 1992, new representative offices were established in Brandenburg. Further branches of the company were opened in the following years. In early 1997, EFEN Kaposvar Hungaria Kft. took over the production of medium voltage plugs for the Hungarian market. In 1999, a sales branch was established in Slovakia. A year later, EFEN Polska sp.z o.o. in Katowice started selling products in Poland. In Chang Ping, VR China, EFEN Dongguan Electrical Products Co. was founded in 1999, and in mid-2001 began manufacturing all the essential products for China. In January 2003, EFEN took over the commercial area of Paterreins Schalttechnik GmbH in Schwabach. All production of low voltage disconnectors and current transformers was relocated to Eltville in early 2005. From 1 January 2006, the EFEN group belonged to WEBER Switzerland AG - one of the companies of the Hager group.

Currently, the entire EFEN group employs over 200 people. The product range includes low voltage fuses of various characteristics meeting national and international standards, fuse switch disconnectors, fuse rails, medium voltage fuses, switch disconnectors, low voltage current transformers and components for telecommunications.
